APC Convention: 8,453 Delegates Expected as Onanuga, Idris Address World Press Conference in Abuja
Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that no fewer than 8,453 delegates will participate in its 2026 National Convention scheduled to hold in Abuja.

The disclosure was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a World Press Conference organised by the party’s Media and Publicity Committee ahead of the convention.

Also present at the event was the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, alongside other key stakeholders.
Idris said the delegates, drawn from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, will converge at Eagle Square for the two-day convention slated for March 27 and 28.

He described the gathering as a major decision-making platform that will focus on electing party leaders, reviewing policies, and setting the strategic direction for the APC’s next phase.

“The convention is not just a routine exercise, but a moment of reflection, consolidation, and planning,” the minister said, noting that it aligns with broader efforts to strengthen internal democracy and party cohesion.
According to him, the event will also serve as a platform for policy engagement and leadership transition within the party, while reinforcing its alignment with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Party officials further assured that all logistical, operational, and security arrangements have been concluded to ensure a smooth and credible convention.
The APC convention, themed around unity and consolidation, is expected to draw top party leaders, including government officials, lawmakers, governors, and other stakeholders, as the party prepares for future political engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The high-level press briefing underscores the party’s readiness to host one of its most significant political gatherings in recent years.
