Gawuna Resigns as FMBN Chairman Ahead of Planned Defection to ADC
Nasiru Gawuna, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), has resigned from his position, effective March 27, 2026.
Gawuna said his resignation was in compliance with a directive issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requiring political appointees to step down ahead of the 2027 general elections in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
In a resignation letter dated March 27, Gawuna expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as a privilege and a chance to contribute to national development through the housing sector.
The former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kano State is reportedly set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down,” he stated.
Gawuna also noted that he is placing his future “in the hands of Allah,” while seeking divine guidance on his next political steps.
He assured that all responsibilities would be handed over in line with established procedures to ensure a smooth transition.
