The Democratic Republic of the Congo is expected to receive its first group of deportees from the United States this week, according to multiple sources familiar with the arrangement, marking a significant development in migration cooperation between the two countries.

Sources indicate that the individuals being returned are primarily Congolese nationals who have exhausted legal avenues to remain in the U.S. and were issued final removal orders. The deportations are reportedly part of ongoing immigration enforcement efforts by the U.S. authorities aimed at addressing undocumented migration.

While officials from both governments have not publicly detailed the full scope of the agreement, insiders suggest that the process has been under negotiation for months, with logistical and diplomatic hurdles delaying earlier transfers.

The move comes amid broader efforts by the U.S. to strengthen deportation agreements with African nations, many of which have historically been slow or reluctant to accept repatriated citizens due to administrative, legal, or political challenges.

Authorities in Congo are said to be preparing to receive the deportees, though concerns remain about reintegration, access to social services, and the country’s capacity to absorb returnees, especially in urban centers already facing economic pressure.

Human rights groups have also raised questions about the conditions deportees may face upon arrival, urging both governments to ensure that returns are conducted in line with international standards and that individuals are treated with dignity.

Neither the U.S. Department of Homeland Security nor Congolese officials have issued formal statements confirming the timeline, but sources say the first arrivals could take place before the end of the week.
