2027: Kwankwaso Reportedly Agrees to Be Obi’s Running Mate – Source
A fresh wave of political speculation has emerged ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election, with reports suggesting that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may be forging a strategic alliance.
According to a political associate, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, the former Kano State governor has agreed to serve as running mate to the former Anambra State governor in the next presidential race. Abdulkarim made the claim during an interview on Trust TV, stating that discussions between both camps have progressed significantly.
“I can categorically tell you that they have agreed,” he said, adding that the understanding is already known within their respective support bases.
He further noted that both the Obidient Movement, which rallied behind Obi in the 2023 election, and the Kwankwassiyya Movement, known for its strong grassroots following in northern Nigeria, are aware of the development.
There are also indications that former President Olusegun Obasanjo may have played a behind-the-scenes role in facilitating talks between the two leaders.
The reported development comes on the heels of Kwankwaso’s recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that has fueled speculation about broader political realignments ahead of 2027.
Despite the claims, neither Obi nor Kwankwaso has officially confirmed the alleged agreement.
Sources, however, say consultations are ongoing, with stakeholders closely watching how events unfold.
If formalised, the proposed alliance could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape by combining southern and northern support bases under a single ticket, potentially influencing voting dynamics across the country.
