Delta Government Hails Progress on N39.3bn Ughelli Flyover Project
The Delta State Government has expressed satisfaction with the level of work on the ongoing N39.3 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover project along the Ughelli/Patani axis of the East-West Highway in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The project, being handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, was inspected on Friday by the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, who said the state government was impressed with both the quality and pace of construction.

Speaking during the inspection, Izeze dismissed claims that contractors operate without supervision in Delta State, stressing that all projects are closely monitored to ensure compliance with approved standards.
“There is a misconception that Julius Berger operates without supervision. Not in Delta State. Every firm working with the government is closely supervised to ensure compliance with standards,” he said.
He added that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has insisted on strict value-for-money principles across all infrastructure projects, which guides monitoring activities by the ministry.
According to him, the Ughelli flyover is one of the flagship projects under the administration’s urban renewal programme and reflects improved design standards compared to similar structures.
The Commissioner highlighted features such as modern median lighting and pedestrian walkways, noting that they were part of design enhancements driven by the state government.
During the inspection, the contractor’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manager, Engr. Frederick Onah, disclosed that the project, awarded in July 2025, has reached about 23 percent completion.
He said major foundational works including piling, pile caps, and bridge piers have been fully completed, while work on pier heads and other structural components is ongoing.
Onah added that construction is currently focused on the bridge deck, retaining walls, and drainage systems, with expectations of significant progress in the coming months.
He projected that the project could be completed by October, depending on operational conditions and other construction variables.
Community representatives also commended the pace of work, noting that cooperation between residents, government, and contractors has helped smooth project execution.
Once completed, the flyover is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion along the busy East-West corridor and improve transportation efficiency in the area.
