NiDCOM Receives Another Rescued Nigerian Returnee From Cairo
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has received another Nigerian rescued from human trafficking and labour exploitation in Cairo, Egypt.
The returnee, Mrs. Busola Victoria Alale, arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, following intervention by the commission.
Alale, a 41-year-old indigene of Ogun State, was received at the Lagos airport by the Head of NiDCOM’s Lagos Office, Mr. Dipo Odebowale, on behalf of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Speaking after her arrival, Alale narrated the harsh conditions she endured while working as a domestic staff in Cairo, describing the experience as traumatic and dehumanising.
She said she was made to work for excessively long hours, often starting at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until 4:00 a.m. the next day without adequate rest.
According to her, she was moved between several employers in a single day, leaving her physically exhausted and emotionally drained.
Alale explained that before travelling abroad, she managed a small frozen foods business in Nigeria, but the business eventually collapsed, pushing her to seek better opportunities outside the country.
She said she had hoped for improved living conditions, but instead found herself trapped in exploitation and hardship.
Expressing deep regret over her decision, she warned Nigerian youths, especially young women, to be cautious of offers promising lucrative jobs abroad, particularly domestic work opportunities that may lead to abuse.
She urged Nigerians to properly verify employment offers before making travel decisions, stressing that many of such promises are deceptive.
Alale also appreciated the Chairman of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for her intervention and support in ensuring her safe return home.
NiDCOM reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigerians in the diaspora and continued to caution citizens against irregular migration and unverified overseas job offers.
The commission advised Nigerians to seek guidance through the appropriate government channels before accepting foreign employment opportunities.
