The Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making organ of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has adopted the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, as its consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

The endorsement was announced on Tuesday at the Lagos House, Marina, by the GAC chairman, Tajudeen Olusi, following a meeting attended by members of the council.

Olusi said all 21 members present unanimously agreed to back Hamzat as the party’s preferred aspirant for the governorship race, effectively positioning him as the APC’s consensus choice for the contest.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also confirmed the development, noting that the council had resolved to procure the party’s governorship interest form for Hamzat. He further disclosed that the APC in Lagos had purchased the presidential expression of interest form for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The GAC, established in 1999 and founded by President Tinubu, serves as the apex advisory body of the Lagos APC, with influence over succession planning, political appointments, and zoning arrangements within the state chapter of the party.

More details are expected to follow as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to take shape in Lagos State.
