Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu Assumes Office as Foreign Affairs Minister, Reaffirms Nigeria’s 4D Foreign Policy Agenda

Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has officially assumed office, pledging to advance the Federal Government’s 4D Foreign Policy agenda centred on Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu resumed duties on Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Abuja following her appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

She was received by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, alongside senior directors and heads of agencies under the ministry, including the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, the Technical Aid Corps, and the Foreign Service Academy.

In his remarks, Ambassador Ahmed congratulated the minister on her appointment, describing it as recognition of her professionalism and contributions to Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements during her previous role as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

He expressed confidence in her ability to strengthen Nigeria’s international partnerships and foreign policy objectives, assuring her of the ministry’s full cooperation.

Representatives of agencies under the ministry also pledged support toward achieving the ministry’s strategic goals under her leadership.

Speaking during the event, Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu thanked the management and staff of the ministry for the warm reception and promised to consolidate on achievements recorded under the Tinubu administration.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the 4D Foreign Policy agenda, while identifying citizen diplomacy and strategic autonomy as critical pillars of Nigeria’s international relations.

The minister also emphasized professionalism, innovation, institutional efficiency, and unity as essential tools for addressing global challenges and advancing Nigeria’s interests on the regional and global stage.

She further assured staff of her commitment to improved welfare, effective service delivery, and stronger collaboration with agencies under the ministry to protect the interests of Nigerians living abroad.
