Governor Hyacinth Alia has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress to contest in the party’s governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 elections in Benue State.

The screening exercise was conducted on Friday at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge, designated for the screening of incumbent governors seeking re-election under the APC platform.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the screening committee was chaired by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

The panel assessed aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for forthcoming governorship elections.

Governor Alia’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms were reportedly purchased by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Benue State chapter, alongside the Benue State Motorcycle Association (BEMOA).

Leaders of the groups cited the governor’s developmental projects, governance style, and reforms across various sectors as reasons for backing his second-term ambition.

Political observers say the clearance further strengthens Alia’s position within the ruling party as political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.

The governor was said to have met all constitutional and party requirements outlined by the APC screening committee.

Since assuming office in 2023, Governor Alia’s administration has focused on infrastructure development, security improvements, civil service reforms, and social welfare programmes across Benue State.

The latest development signals the gradual escalation of political activities within the APC as preparations for the next general elections continue to gather momentum nationwide.
