FORMER BENUE GOVERNOR GABRIEL SUSWAM RESIGNS FROM PDP

Former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s prolonged internal crisis and unresolved leadership disputes.
Suswam announced his decision in a resignation letter dated February 4, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Mbagber Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
In the letter, the former governor attributed his exit to deepening divisions and persistent leadership challenges within the opposition party, describing the situation as damaging and long-standing.
“I consider it honourable and necessary to step aside while wishing the party well, should it one day find the courage and consensus to resolve its long-standing issues,” Suswam stated.
Although he did not disclose his next political move, the former governor has recently been sighted engaging with leaders and prominent figures of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), fuelling speculation about a possible defection.
Political sources also suggest that Suswam may be weighing a move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Suswam, however, has distanced himself from the coalition that culminated in the formation of the ADC, despite being a foundation member.
