PDP Clears Jonathan as Sole Presidential Aspirant Ahead of 2027 Race

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly emerged as the sole presidential aspirant cleared by the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The development was announced on Tuesday by the party’s screening committee led by former Babangida Aliyu following the conclusion of the screening exercise.

According to reports, the committee confirmed Jonathan’s clearance as the only candidate to scale through the process for the PDP presidential ticket.

A PDP chieftain, Umar Sani, also confirmed that the former president had purchased the party’s nomination form, describing the move as a clear indication of Jonathan’s interest in returning to active partisan politics.

Speaking during an appearance on Trust TV, Sani said political ambition is demonstrated through concrete steps such as obtaining nomination forms.

“In politics, what is important is action. If you are interested, there are processes you have to follow, one of which is the procurement of nomination forms. He has done that,” he said.

When asked directly whether Jonathan had indeed obtained the form, Sani replied: “Yes, and in fact, he is about to come and submit the forms publicly.”

The development is expected to intensify political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with analysts already speculating on the implications of a possible return of Jonathan to the presidential race.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 under the PDP before losing his re-election bid to former President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.
