Troops of Sector 1, Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with other security agencies, have foiled an attack by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during an intelligence-led operation in Imezi Owa community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The operation, conducted on May 6, 2026, was reportedly part of ongoing efforts to track suspected terrorist collaborators within the community.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, troops came under attack from a building while advancing on foot into the community.

The military said the attackers opened fire on the patrol team, resulting in injuries to three personnel.

Despite the assault, troops were said to have maintained operational control, repelled the attack, and secured the area, while the injured soldiers were evacuated to a military medical facility for treatment.

The Army further disclosed that during the exchange of fire, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) allegedly stored inside the building used as a hideout by the suspects detonated, causing a fire outbreak that destroyed the structure.

Subsequent searches around the area reportedly led to the recovery of additional IEDs, improvised hand grenades, and a shrine allegedly used for ritual activities.

Security operatives said the shrine was dismantled and destroyed to prevent further criminal use and enhance public safety within the community.

The military also confirmed the arrest of one suspected collaborator during follow-up operations in the area.

According to the statement, the suspect and recovered items have been handed over to the Nigerian Police, Ezeagu Division, for further investigation.
