Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pledging a leadership style anchored on measurable results and governance experience.

Amaechi’s nomination form was obtained on his behalf on Friday at the ADC National Headquarters in Abuja by former Edo State Governor and party elder, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, marking a formal entry that is expected to reshape early opposition calculations ahead of the polls.

His supporters say his entry introduces a “tested hand” into the presidential contest, arguing that Nigeria needs experienced leadership capable of addressing insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits.

The campaign platform, operating under the banner “The CRA Advocacy Network,” described Amaechi as a candidate with a track record of delivering results in both state and federal executive roles.

They highlighted his tenure as Rivers State governor, where he is credited with confronting militancy and kidnapping, expanding infrastructure, and investing heavily in education and healthcare.

The group also pointed to his time as Minister of Transportation, claiming he contributed to improvements in maritime security and delivered major rail and port infrastructure projects that created thousands of jobs.

According to the campaign team, Amaechi’s record demonstrates a governance philosophy focused on structural reforms rather than short-term interventions, particularly in sectors such as power, education, transport, and job creation.

Political analysts say his declaration is likely to intensify early competition within opposition circles, especially as parties reposition ahead of primaries and coalition negotiations.

They also note that Amaechi’s entry could deepen political realignments in the coming months as aspirants begin to consolidate support bases across party lines.
