Wike Blasts Makinde’s 2027 Presidential Ambition, Says It Is “Dead on Arrival”
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (Nyesom Wike) has strongly criticised the 2027 presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing it as “dead on arrival.”
Wike made the remarks while speaking to journalists during an inspection of ongoing road projects in the Kwali Area Council of Abuja on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
APC/Allied Movement Alliance Controversy
Makinde had reportedly declared his intention to run for president on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) following a political arrangement involving a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and APM.
However, Wike dismissed the move, insisting that Makinde’s alignment with APM would not succeed politically.
He argued that the governor’s presidential ambition lacked a viable foundation and was destined to fail.
PDP Internal Tensions Deepen
The exchange adds to growing tensions within the PDP, where rival blocs led by influential figures such as Wike and Makinde continue to disagree over party direction and alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike also maintained that claims of a PDP–APM alliance were politically fabricated, stating that other party leaders, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, had not endorsed such a move.
Political Climate Ahead of 2027
The comments come amid increasing political realignments and internal party negotiations as Nigeria’s political landscape gradually shifts toward the 2027 election cycle.
Both Wike and Makinde remain central figures in the evolving dynamics within the opposition PDP and broader coalition discussions shaping the next presidential contest.
