Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, saying the decision was taken in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Fubara said the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, friends, and political associates.

The governor stated that although the decision was difficult, leadership sometimes requires personal sacrifice for the greater good of the people.

According to him, Rivers State is bigger than any individual ambition, and the prevailing political atmosphere demands restraint and commitment to peace.

“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice. There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people,” the governor stated.

Fubara pledged his support for whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate, emphasizing that the unity and progress of the party remain paramount.

He thanked supporters who stood by him throughout the political process, acknowledging their sacrifices, loyalty, prayers, and commitment.

The governor admitted that many supporters might feel disappointed by his withdrawal but maintained that his actions were guided by what he described as the higher interest of Rivers State.

Explaining his silence in recent weeks, Fubara said it was deliberate and strategic, adding that not every political development could be publicly discussed.

Quoting a local proverb, he said, “Not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace,” suggesting that he had faced significant political pressures and difficult choices behind the scenes.

Despite stepping aside from the contest, Fubara insisted that his decision should not be interpreted as an act of weakness, fear, or surrender.
