FCT Police Impound Over 30 Vehicles in Crackdown on Tinted Glasses, Concealed Number Plates
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its enforcement campaign against vehicles with illegally tinted windows and concealed number plates, impounding more than 30 vehicles across Abuja in a renewed effort to tackle crime and strengthen security.
FCT Commissioner of Police, , disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abuja, describing the operation as part of proactive measures to curb criminal activities and improve public safety in the nation’s capital.
According to the police chief, intelligence reports indicate that vehicles fitted with heavily tinted windows or covered number plates are frequently used by criminal elements to evade identification and surveillance during illegal operations.
He said the enforcement exercise is designed to enhance the capacity of security agencies to detect suspicious movements, investigate crimes and respond effectively to security threats.
“The use of tinted vehicles and concealed number plates poses significant security challenges because they are often exploited by criminals to hide their identities and avoid detection,” Muhammed said.
He warned motorists against violating existing regulations, stressing that offenders would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The commissioner revealed that more than 30 vehicles had already been seized since the commencement of the operation, adding that enforcement would continue across strategic locations within the Federal Capital Territory.
Muhammed urged residents to support the initiative by ensuring their vehicles comply with legal requirements and by cooperating with security personnel during routine checks.
He also announced the arrest of suspected kidnappers linked to criminal activities within the FCT, assuring residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property.
The latest enforcement drive comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen crime prevention measures and enhance public confidence in the security architecture of the Federal Capital Territory.
Police authorities have reiterated their determination to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting criminal networks and maintaining law and order across Abuja.
