Manchester United have confirmed the departure of English winger Jadon Sancho, who leaves the club as a free agent five years after arriving from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth approximately £75 million.

Sancho, once regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young talents, joined United in 2021 amid high expectations following an impressive spell in Germany. However, his time at Old Trafford failed to live up to expectations, with inconsistent performances, managerial disputes, and a series of loan moves limiting his impact.

The winger made 83 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 12 goals during his stay. In recent seasons, he spent time on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and most recently Aston Villa as he sought to revive his career away from Old Trafford.

His final campaign saw him feature for Aston Villa, where he made 39 appearances, contributing one goal and three assists. Despite helping Villa secure European success, the club opted not to make his move permanent.

Sancho’s departure represents a significant financial loss for Manchester United, with the club receiving no transfer fee for a player who was among the most expensive signings in its history. The move has reignited debate among supporters over recruitment decisions and player management at Old Trafford.

At 26, Sancho is expected to attract interest from clubs across Europe, with reports suggesting a possible return to Borussia Dortmund could be among his options.

Manchester United thanked the winger for his service and wished him success in the next stage of his career as the club continues its squad restructuring ahead of the new season.
