A Nigerian court has sentenced the mother and sister of eliminated terrorist kingpin Battujo to 40 years in prison following their conviction on terrorism-related charges stemming from an investigation conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The two women were arrested during security operations targeting networks linked to the late terrorist commander, who was reportedly killed during a military operation. Prosecutors told the court that the defendants played roles in supporting and facilitating activities connected to the terrorist organization led by Battujo.

According to court documents and security officials, the case formed part of broader efforts by Nigerian authorities to dismantle support structures that enable terrorist groups to operate. Investigators alleged that the convicted women provided assistance that aided the activities of the terrorist network.

After reviewing evidence presented by the prosecution and defense, the court found both defendants guilty and imposed prison sentences totaling 40 years. The judgment was hailed by security agencies as a significant step in holding accountable individuals found to be supporting terrorist operations.

The DSS welcomed the ruling, describing it as a victory for the rule of law and ongoing counterterrorism efforts. Security officials said the conviction demonstrates that authorities remain committed not only to pursuing armed militants but also those accused of providing logistical, financial or other forms of support to extremist groups.

The case comes amid continued operations by Nigerian security forces against insurgent and terrorist organizations operating in parts of the country. Authorities have repeatedly stressed the importance of targeting the broader networks that sustain such groups, including financiers, recruiters and facilitators.

The conviction of Battujo’s relatives is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts by security agencies to disrupt terrorist support networks and deter collaboration with violent extremist groups.

Authorities have not indicated whether the defendants intend to appeal the verdict.
