The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is exploring a partnership with San José State University (SJSU), United States, to expand educational, technological and cultural opportunities for Nigerians, particularly in emerging fields of innovation.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, discussed the proposed collaboration during a meeting with the President of San José State University, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson.

A major focus of the discussions was the proposed Silicon Valley Tech Bridge initiative, a specialised summer programme that would provide young Nigerians with immersive training in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology and medical devices.

The programme is expected to combine academic instruction at San José State University with practical industry exposure at leading technology companies, including Adobe, LinkedIn and Jabil, particularly during Black Engineer Week. It will also create opportunities for participants to engage with members of the Nigerian diaspora community in Silicon Valley.

The two leaders also considered the establishment of a Fulbright Leadership Exchange Programme to strengthen academic and professional collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.

In addition, they explored cultural initiatives, including the creation of murals showcasing Nigeria’s rich heritage within the university community.

Dabiri-Erewa said the proposed partnership reflects NiDCOM’s commitment to leveraging the expertise and global networks of Nigerians in the diaspora to drive innovation, human capital development and international collaboration.

She noted that the initiative is expected to build stronger links between Nigeria and one of the world’s foremost technology ecosystems while equipping young Nigerians with globally competitive skills and fostering enduring educational and cultural exchanges.
