Remi Tinubu Launches N100m Empowerment Scheme for 2,000 Women Traders in Jigawa
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has unveiled a N100 million business support fund for 2,000 women petty traders in Jigawa State, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to empowering women and strengthening small businesses across the country.
Mrs. Tinubu announced the intervention on Monday at the palace of the Emir of Hadejia, Adamu Abubakar Maje, during the commencement of her one-day official visit to the state.
The N100 million grant will provide N50,000 each to 2,000 women engaged in petty trading to help recapitalise their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady said small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) remain the backbone of Nigeria’s economy and a critical driver of sustainable development. She stressed that supporting women-owned businesses is essential to fostering economic resilience, creating jobs and reducing poverty at the grassroots.
Beyond the empowerment programme, Mrs. Tinubu is expected to flag off the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-West geopolitical zone.
She will also inaugurate key infrastructure projects undertaken by the Jigawa State Government, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy and the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic, as part of activities marking her visit to the state.
