Tinubu Congratulates Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya on Historic Election as NBA President

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her election as President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing her emergence as a landmark achievement for the legal profession and a victory for merit, excellence and gender inclusion.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu noted that Badejo-Okusanya is the first elected female President and the second woman to lead the association.

The President said her distinguished legal career, marked by professionalism, integrity and commitment to justice, earned her the confidence and support of lawyers across the country.

He added that her election reflects the growing recognition of the contributions of women to nation-building and the administration of justice.

Tinubu expressed confidence that the new NBA President would strengthen the legal profession by upholding the rule of law and championing reforms aimed at improving access to justice for Nigerians.

He also urged Badejo-Okusanya to work closely with stakeholders in advancing judicial reforms, safeguarding the Constitution and reinforcing the legal profession’s role in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.

Congratulating her on the historic feat, the President said the achievement demonstrates that Nigerian women can attain the highest levels of professional excellence in both the public and private sectors.

“I extend my hearty congratulations to the President-elect of the NBA for her victory. As the first elected female president of the Association of Lawyers in Nigeria, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya has made history,” Tinubu said.

He further advised the new NBA President to unite members of the association by reaching out to her fellow contestants and addressing concerns arising from the election.

“I urge you to reach out to the other contestants, unify the Bar and make efforts to correct issues that arose during your election,” the President said.

Tinubu wished Badejo-Okusanya a successful tenure and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Nigerian Bar Association to strengthen democratic governance, promote justice and support reforms in the country’s legal system.
