2027: Ex-FRSC Officer Ameh Declares for APC Presidential Ticket, Seeks to Unseat Tinubu

A retired Superintendent Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ameh Itodo Ameh, has declared his intention to contest for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ameh, who made the declaration in a statement, urged the ruling party to nominate him instead of incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that Nigeria requires a new generation of leadership to tackle its economic and security challenges.

The Benue State-born politician said he had previously advised the APC during its 2022 national convention and presidential primaries, which produced Tinubu as the party’s candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

He criticised the administration’s removal of fuel subsidy, saying the policy intensified economic hardship without adequate measures to cushion its effects on Nigerians.

Ameh also argued that the ₦70,000 national minimum wage approved by the Federal Government was insufficient to offset the rising cost of living, maintaining that a higher wage would have provided greater relief for workers.

On security, the APC aspirant expressed concern over continued insecurity across the country, insisting that Nigeria needs a change in leadership in 2027 to effectively address its economic and security challenges.

He further argued that the North Central geopolitical zone has never produced a democratically elected civilian president since Nigeria’s amalgamation in 1914, describing his aspiration as an opportunity to promote equity, fairness and inclusiveness in the country’s political leadership.

Ameh also criticised the high cost of the APC presidential nomination form, noting that the ₦100 million fee charged during the 2023 election cycle prevented him from participating in the contest. He expressed concern that the cost could increase further ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite the financial challenge, he said he remained determined to seek the party’s ticket, describing internal competition as essential to strengthening democracy within the APC.

The retired road safety officer appealed to Nigerians to support his aspiration through grassroots fundraising, expressing confidence that small donations from citizens would be sufficient to finance his campaign.

He also called on Nigerians to pray for the country and support leaders committed to justice, peace and national prosperity, while urging citizens to actively participate in shaping the nation’s political future.
