THE WORLD NEED MORE THAN POLICIES TO GUARANTEE AN ELUSIVE FUTURE ON THE PLANET

More than half a million people globally to lose their live due to extreme temperatures from el nino in 2026/2027.

At this period, nations will be judged by how they protect their environment because an environment that faces constant that faces threats loses more than the environment, it gradually loses the planet and the opportunity to contribute to national development.

Nations must see environmental degradation as a major obstacle to human rights and dignity, social justice and sustainable development that deprives people of healthy future.

Half a million people losing their lives due to extreme heat from el Nino requires renewed attention to hurricane Polo, devastating flooding in Abuja and Lagos including other parts of the country.

They remind the world of the magnitude of environmental challenges as many more are exposed to hunger and poverty while many more are displaced in IDP camps with the sub saharan Africa bearing the highest burden of climate change.

Despite Climate change being driven by other factors including high temperature, burning of fossil fuels among others.

From my research, I can can reasonably posit that degradation of the environment is largely driven by poverty, hunger and inequality. That is why it is necessary for the national, sub national government to work in concert to address climate change.

Let there be a nationwide efforts on environmental protection. As the global bodies including UNGA has accelerated consciousness on climate change and extreme weather patterns, the world need to intensify efforts to tackle poverty, hunger and inequality and create a sustainable path for the resettlement of IDPs.

As UNGA has brought to the fore, extreme weather conditions and unpredictable rainfall in big and vulnerable countries like Nigeria cost a lot of money, proper pacing is necessary all year round if the world must go the distance, sustain the momentum and stay on course.

Nigeria has a raining season: that period of onset and heavy downpours used to be between 4 and 6 months but now between 6 and 9 months. The country has enough time to articulate in details what to do differently because we know how flooding ail the country.

The nation need well thought out practical solutions that offer context to policies and promises. It is no brainer that good policies have the edge in the management of flood disaster.
