Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ahead of the Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange scheduled to take place from October 7 to 9, 2026.

Shettima is leading a Nigerian delegation to the three-day engagement, which is aimed at allowing officials from both countries to exchange experiences on strengthening nutrition delivery and developing coordinated government-led programmes at federal, state and local levels.

The Vice President was received in Addis Ababa by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Nasir Aminu, alongside other Nigerian diplomatic and defence officials and Ethiopian government representatives.

Shettima is attending the forum at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is leading Ethiopia’s multisectoral approach to improving nutrition.

The Nigerian delegation is expected to study Ethiopia’s experience in coordinating nutrition interventions across different sectors and levels of government. The programme also includes visits to agricultural and development initiatives in Oromia, Mojo and Bishoftu, including a wheat farm, banana plantation, the Bounty of the Basket Training Centre, selected households and Jabdu Motors.

The Vice President is accompanied by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi.

Other members of the delegation include the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Umar.

The exchange comes as Nigeria seeks to strengthen nutrition interventions across the country, with officials expected to draw lessons from Ethiopia’s experience in implementing coordinated, multisectoral nutrition programmes.
