The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Federal Capital Territory Council, has mourned the death of Felix Onigbinde, an award-winning photojournalist with the Nigerian Tribune who covered the State House. Onigbinde reportedly fell into a coma last week and was admitted to Garki General Hospital, Abuja, where he later died.

In a condolence statement issued on Saturday by its Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the NUJ FCT Council described his death as particularly heartbreaking. “His passing had created a painful void among colleagues, friends and the wider journalism community,” the statement read.

The council noted that Onigbinde began his journalism career with Daily Trust newspaper before joining the Nigerian Tribune, where he worked until his death. It described him as a dedicated and award-winning photojournalist whose career reflected commitment to gathering and disseminating information in service to society.

The State House Press Corps also mourned the loss. Chairman Emmanuel Anule announced the death in a message to colleagues, describing Onigbinde as a colleague, brother and friend. “Please, accept my sincere condolences,” Anule said, urging colleagues to pray for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family.

The NUJ extended condolences to the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune, the Photojournalists Association of Nigeria, his colleagues and professional associates. It also commiserated with his immediate family, particularly his wife and two children.

Onigbinde hailed from Ife Modakeke in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State. The council prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for God to comfort his wife, children, extended family, colleagues and all those mourning his death.
