Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the death of Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing him as a courageous leader whose contributions to education, public service and the development of Yorubaland would remain indelible.

Sanwo-Olu, in a personal statement issued on behalf of his family, the Lagos State Government and people, as well as his fellow governors in the South-West, extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, members of Afenifere and the Yoruba people over the loss.

He described the late Fasoranti as a respected statesman whose commitment to leadership, community development and public service positively impacted many lives.

According to the governor, Fasoranti played a significant role in steering Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, while advancing the interests and aspirations of the Yoruba people.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the late elder statesman remained steadfast in his advocacy for truth, equity, justice, true federalism and good governance throughout his lifetime.

He said Fasoranti’s dedication to these ideals had earned him respect across Yorubaland and Nigeria, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations.

The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family, loved ones, Afenifere members and the entire Yoruba nation the strength to bear the loss.

He described the death as an irreparable loss to the family and the Yoruba people.
