President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed his commitment to building a prosperous Nigeria, saying he prayed for wisdom and resilience to serve the country during a spiritual visit to Saudi Arabia.

The President spoke on Monday after performing Umrah and leading a Nigerian delegation to offer prayers inside the Holy Ka’abah in Makkah, an opportunity granted by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Tinubu described the experience as historic and deeply significant, expressing gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the honour extended to him and members of the Nigerian delegation.

“I asked for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people. I know that prayer has been granted,” the President said.

He recalled making a similar spiritual journey before the 2023 presidential election, saying he had returned to Saudi Arabia to give thanks to Almighty Allah.

The President said his experience at the Ka’abah had further strengthened his resolve to pursue what he described as Project Nigeria, with a focus on prosperity, national development and expanding opportunities for young people.

“My commitment to Project Nigeria is higher,” Tinubu said. “I am determined to usher in prosperity and fully develop the country, consistent with the wish of Allah and the support of the people.”

Reflecting on the teachings of the Holy Qur’an, the President said political power and authority were temporary trusts that must be exercised with humility and responsibility.

He said leaders must recognise that ultimate sovereignty belongs to Almighty Allah and that positions of authority should be used in the service of the people.

Tinubu also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic outlook, saying the country had emerged from a difficult period and that the foundation for sustained growth was being strengthened.

“The foundation is solid, and the economy has come out of the dark tunnel. This is inspiring,” he said.

The President stressed that Nigeria’s long-term progress would depend on sustained investment in the future of young people.

“We need to build a future for our youth. If we don’t invest in their future, how do we want to be remembered as leaders 50 years from now?” he asked.

Tinubu said his administration would remain focused on strengthening the economy, creating opportunities for young Nigerians and pursuing policies aimed at enabling citizens to realise their potential.

The President was accompanied on the spiritual journey by several senior government officials, state governors and business leaders.

Among those present were the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, and the governors of Borno, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Yobe and Kwara states.

Business leaders, including BUA Group Chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Oando Chief Executive Officer, Wale Tinubu, were also part of the delegation.

The delegation expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enter the Holy Ka’abah and offer prayers at one of Islam’s most sacred sites.
