This is no ordinary victory. It is a historic breakthrough for Nigerian womenโ€™s football and a proud moment for our nation.

On ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ’, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”, our young footballers defeated Brazil ๐Ÿ‘โ€“๐Ÿ in Morocco to accomplish something no previous Nigerian U-17 womenโ€™s team had achieved.

And there is another remarkable distinction:

Nigeriaโ€™s previous best performance came in 2022, when the Flamingos finished third in India.

Today, this new generation has gone one step further.

After a goalless first half against Brazil, Queen Joseph broke the deadlock in the 56th minute. Awawu Bashiru followed with two goals in the 71st and 80th minutes, putting Nigeria firmly in control before Brazil scored a late consolation.

These young women have already guaranteed Nigeria at least a silver medal. But their ambition, understandably, is gold.

They will face ๐‰๐š๐ฉ๐š๐ง ๐จ๐ง ๐’๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐š๐ฒ, ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ•, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”, with an opportunity to become world champions.

Reaching a FIFA World Cup final is an extraordinary achievement that deserves national recognition. Behind this historic qualification are years of preparation, personal sacrifices, discipline, determination and the courage to represent Nigeria on the world stage.

โ€œWhenever Nigeriaโ€™s national teams compete and bring us pride, whether at the senior or age-grade level, we should celebrate the players and coaches while also remembering the importance of the financial support that makes international participation possible.

My acknowledgment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubuโ€™s financial commitments and support for Nigerian sports is entirely voluntary and reflects my independent assessment of publicly available records and documented developments.

I have no affiliation with any political party in Nigeria. My commentary is guided by evidence, fairness, transparency and accountability, not political loyalty or sycophancy.

We should be able to discuss Nigerian sports, celebrate our athletes and acknowledge documented government contributions without turning every conversation into a political debate.

Recognizing what is right does not prevent us from questioning what is wrong.

Giving credit where it is due and demanding accountability are equally important responsibilities.

My commitment remains to Nigerian athletes, the integrity of our sporting institutions and the advancement of Nigerian sports, regardless of who occupies political office.
