APC Crisis Deepens in Ogun as Ex-Gov Daniel Barred From Senatorial Caucus Meeting
A fresh crack has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State after former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, was reportedly denied access to a senatorial caucus meeting on Monday.
The meeting, held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, was convened for party stakeholders across Ogun East Senatorial District, including past and present officeholders.
However, drama unfolded when Daniel, who arrived at the venue around 10 a.m. in a branded campaign bus, was stopped from entering the premises by security personnel.
Videos circulating online showed the senator’s convoy being blocked at the gate, with sources alleging that the directive came from party authorities at higher levels.
Efforts by his security aides to negotiate access were unsuccessful, as tension grew outside the venue, with supporters chanting solidarity slogans in his favour.
Addressing the crowd from his vehicle, Daniel expressed surprise at the development, insisting he was duly invited to attend the caucus meeting.
“We are here for our caucus meeting, and I got here by 10 a.m., but they said we shouldn’t enter the venue,” he said.
The incident was confirmed by his media aide, who described the gathering as a meeting dominated by loyalists of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
According to him, the notice for the meeting was issued late at night and extended invitations to key party stakeholders, including National Assembly members such as Daniel.
The development is seen as the latest sign of deepening internal divisions within the APC in Ogun State, particularly between factions aligned with the former governor and those loyal to the current administration.
As of press time, the state chapter of the party had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Political observers say the public nature of the standoff could further widen existing cracks within the party ahead of future political alignments in the state.
