Argentina’s Milei Declares UN a ‘Useless Organization’ in Fiery General Assembly Address

Argentine President Javier Milei launched a scathing attack on the United Nations during his address to the General Assembly on Wednesday, calling the organization “useless” and accusing it of failing to uphold its founding principles.

Milei described the UN as an institution that “has become a useless organization, serving only to feed a caste of fatally arrogant parasites disguised as well-intentioned bureaucrats”.

He said the UN had failed in its core mission to guarantee collective security and human rights, instead allowing “chaos, violence and international terrorism” to flourish.

The Argentine leader also accused the organization of sheltering dictatorships and systematically voting against Israel while remaining silent on Islamic terrorism.

On the Falkland Islands, known in Argentina as Las Malvinas, Milei said the UN had “looked the other way” despite a resolution adopted fifty years ago urging both parties to refrain from unilateral actions in the disputed territory.

He highlighted the Sea Lion oil project, which he said was moving toward extraction on Argentina’s continental shelf under British licenses that Buenos Aires “rejects as illegal and illegitimate”.

“There’s no shortage of words or resolutions. What is lacking is consequences,” Milei told the assembly.

He argued that an institution unable to make its words weigh on facts “loses the most important thing: it loses its authority”.

Milei also criticized the UN’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, calling forced lockdowns “a global experiment in social control disguised as science” and citing that as the reason Argentina withdrew from the World Health Organization.

On artificial intelligence, Milei rejected pre-emptive regulation, saying Argentina would “stand at the forefront of freedom” with limited liability for companies operating with AI agents and tax incentives.

He reaffirmed Argentina’s alignment with the West, the United States and Israel, while condemning Iranian attacks on Israel.

Despite his criticism, Milei said Argentina would continue participating in multilateral forums “in good faith,” adding that “we mustn’t confuse cooperation with subordination”.
