U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has pledged to fully prosecute individuals caught vandalizing the iconic Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, warning that damage to national monuments and historic public spaces will not be tolerated.

Pirro’s remarks came after authorities reported incidents of vandalism at the Reflecting Pool, one of the most recognizable landmarks on the National Mall. The site, located between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, attracts millions of visitors each year.

According to federal officials, investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, witness statements, and other evidence to identify those responsible. While authorities have not publicly disclosed the full extent of the damage, officials described the vandalism as a serious offense against public property and a national symbol.

Pirro said individuals found responsible would face the full force of the law, emphasizing that acts of vandalism at federally protected sites carry legal consequences. She added that preserving national monuments and memorials is essential to protecting the country’s historical and cultural heritage.

The National Park Service, which manages the National Mall and Memorial Parks, is working alongside federal law enforcement agencies to assess damage and support the investigation.

Officials noted that vandalism at major national landmarks can result in federal criminal charges, fines, restitution costs, and potential imprisonment depending on the severity of the offense.

The Reflecting Pool has long served as a gathering place for tourists, commemorative events, and historic demonstrations, including the 1963 March on Washington led by Martin Luther King Jr..

Authorities urged visitors to report suspicious activity and help protect public monuments. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as suspects are identified and charges are filed.
