Bandits Kill 23 Farmers in Fresh Zamfara Attack
At least 23 farmers have reportedly been killed in a fresh attack by armed bandits in Zamfara State, underscoring the persistent security challenges facing communities in Nigeria’s Northwest.
The victims were said to have been attacked while working on their farmlands, with several others sustaining injuries and fleeing to nearby communities for safety, according to local reports. The incident has heightened fears among residents, many of whom rely on farming for their livelihoods.
The latest killings come barely weeks after security forces launched a major offensive against armed groups in Zamfara, an operation the state government said resulted in the killing of more than 300 bandits. Despite recent military gains, attacks on farming communities have continued in parts of the state.
Residents have renewed calls for increased military deployment and sustained security operations to protect rural communities and enable farmers to return safely to their fields.
Authorities were yet to issue a detailed official statement on the latest attack as of the time of filing this report.
