Delta CP Orders Summary Trial of Officers Over Viral Extortion Video
The Delta State Police Command has ordered the summary trial of two officers captured in a viral video allegedly extorting money from a motorist within a police station in Asaba.

In a statement issued on April 16, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command said it had reviewed the footage, which showed officers attached to ‘C’ Division, Asaba, collecting money using a Point of Sale (POS) machine.
The Command described the incident, which reportedly occurred on January 13, 2026, as “embarrassing, unprofessional and conduct unbecoming of police officers,” stressing that such actions are unacceptable and violate established standards of policing.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, condemned the act and reiterated the zero-tolerance stance of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, against extortion and misconduct within the Force.
He emphasised that the use of POS machines or any electronic payment platform within police formations is strictly prohibited, adding that no officer is authorised to demand or receive money from members of the public under any guise.
According to the statement, orderly room trial has commenced for the officers involved, identified as Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim. The Command assured that the outcome of the disciplinary process would be made public upon conclusion.
The CP further warned that extortion and abuse of office would not be tolerated, directing officers to uphold professionalism and respect for citizens’ fundamental human rights in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
While appreciating members of the public who brought the incident to light, the Command urged citizens to continue reporting cases of police misconduct through its Complaint Response Unit.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, accountability, and rebuilding public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
