Police Intensify Waterways Patrol to Tackle Kidnapping, Drug Trafficking in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command has intensified security operations along key waterways in Asaba as part of efforts to curb kidnapping, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities in the area.

In a statement issued on April 16, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command disclosed that the operation involved a coordinated deployment of operatives from the Marine Units of the Delta and Anambra State Police Commands, supported by personnel of the Buffalo Team.

The patrol, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, covered critical waterways stretching from the Second Niger Bridge axis to the Asaba Grand Hotel area.

According to the Command, the exercise forms part of proactive strategies aimed at addressing emerging security threats and ensuring the safety of residents and commuters within the state.

“All officers involved in the exercise were properly kitted with life jackets as part of safety protocols and professionalism in the discharge of their duties,” the statement noted, adding that the operation was conducted successfully without any incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Delta State.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime.

The Command reiterated its resolve to sustain intelligence-driven operations across land and waterways to strengthen security and public confidence.
