Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rural infrastructure development, insisting that improved road access remains central to his government’s development agenda.

The governor made the remarks on Thursday during an inspection of the ongoing Ekeremor-Ndoro section of the Ekeremor-Agge road project in Ekeremor Local Government Area.

Diri said the construction of roads linking riverine communities is aimed at easing transportation challenges, reducing hardship, and improving access across the state’s difficult terrain. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed within schedule despite the challenging environment.

A statement issued by his spokesperson, Daniel Alabrah, noted that the governor was satisfied with the quality and pace of work being handled by Lubrik Construction Company (LCC), a contractor he said has consistently delivered on previous state projects.

He referenced the company’s work on road infrastructure within the New Yenagoa City project, one of which was recently inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on April 10, 2026.

According to Diri, “We all know what it takes to construct a one-kilometre road in Bayelsa State. If we surmounted the Nembe-Brass road terrain, this will not be an exception.

“For me, I am development-oriented. I want to see the suffering of my people end, and that is what I am doing.

“I am very satisfied with the level of work I have seen today, and this is not a new company to us as a government. This company has been working with the Bayelsa State government since I assumed office.”

The project manager of LCC, Engr. Abu Saheed, disclosed that about seven kilometres of the 28-kilometre road already has stone base laid, adding that with continued government support, completion is expected next year.

He also confirmed that materials for the major bridge along the corridor are already on site, with piling works expected to commence within two months.

The Ekeremor-Agge road is expected to serve as a critical economic corridor linking communities to the deep seaport at Agge. When completed, it is projected to boost trade, improve mobility, reduce travel time, and enhance security along Bayelsa’s western axis.

The inspection was attended by the deputy governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, political stakeholders, and senior government officials.
