‘Fake’ DG Adeyemi Remanded In Kuje Prison As Court Fixes October 12 For Bail Hearing

The Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded the self-styled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi, in Kuje Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

Justice Mohammed Umar ordered Adeyemi’s remand on Wednesday and fixed October 12 for hearing and ruling on his bail application.

At the commencement of proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation had taken over the prosecution of the case from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney-General intended to review the case file but urged the judge to proceed with the existing eight-count charge.

According to the charge sheet, Adeyemi allegedly forged a presidential appointment letter purportedly signed by the then Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and dated around March 2024. He was also accused of forging other official documents, including State House letterheads.

The prosecution further alleged that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as a government appointee and operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja.

Adeyemi, however, denied all the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the eight counts.

The prosecution urged the court to remand him, citing his previous failure to appear for arraignment, which had led to the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest.

Defence counsel, Genesis Francis, told the court that Adeyemi has a contagious health condition and was scheduled for a medical appointment on Friday.

The defence’s attempts to secure bail were unsuccessful as Justice Umar fixed October 12 for hearing and ruling on the application.

Oyedepo urged the court to ensure an expeditious hearing of the matter, assuring the defence that qualified medical personnel were available at both the police and correctional facilities to attend to Adeyemi’s medical needs while in custody.

The court adjourned the case until October 12 for hearing and ruling on the bail application, as well as commencement of trial.
