The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 95 senior officers across four paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior. The affected agencies include the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

According to Retired Major General Abdulmalik Jibril, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), the promotions span the ranks of Controllers and Commandants to Deputy Controllers and Deputy Commandants. The breakdown of the promotions shows that in the NCoS, four Assistant Controllers General were elevated to Deputy Controllers General, while 31 Controllers were promoted to Assistant Controllers General. Similarly, in the NIS, six Assistant Controllers General were promoted to Deputy Controllers General, and 20 Controllers were elevated to Assistant Controllers General.

The Board also approved the formation of a committee tasked with developing a harmonised Scheme of Service for the four agencies, aimed at improving operational efficiency and inter-agency collaboration. “To whom much is given, much is expected. The officers must bring their wealth of knowledge to bear in their respective responsibilities,” Major General Jibril said, congratulating the promoted officers.

In addition to the promotions, the Board deliberated on 224 disciplinary cases involving personnel from the four services. The outcomes included dismissals, compulsory retirements, rejections of appeal against earlier dismissals, exonerations, issuance of warning letters, and loss of seniority for some officers.
The Board has also announced plans to conduct a recruitment exercise into the services and the Board Secretariat, with online applications set to commence on Monday, July 14, 2025. Major General Jibril cautioned applicants to beware of fraudsters, assuring that the recruitment process would be transparent and in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The applicants are urged to be wary of activities of scammers as the process would be seamless and transparent in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Jibril said.
The Board has also approved the timeline for the 2025 Promotion Exercise, which will begin in August and terminate in November 2025.
