A prominent Rivers State political stakeholder and community development expert, Blessing Fubara Snr., has officially defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, declaring that the people of Rivers State are ready to reclaim their state in the 2027 general elections.

Fubara Snr., who is not to be confused with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, made the announcement on May 10, 2026, in Abuja after being received by the national leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, alongside other key party stakeholders. Speaking during the meeting, he described the NDC as “a moving train,” saying his decision to join the party was driven by the urgent need to protect the interests of Rivers people amid ongoing political tensions in the oil-rich state.

“The soul of Rivers State is at stake,” Fubara Snr. said, adding that residents were preparing to “take back their state” ahead of the 2027 polls. He expressed confidence that “Rivers will be OK” after the elections.

Fubara Snr. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development and Adult Education and currently serves as the managing director and chief executive officer of D’Consiglories LLC. Over the years, he has worked in both public and private sector roles, including as technical assistant to the Rivers State government on employment generation and empowerment, resource consultant to the Niger Delta Development Commission on youth development, and consultant to the Rivers State government on urban renewal and infrastructure development.

His defection comes against the backdrop of a fierce political battle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged political godfather, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, over control of the state’s political structures. The governor defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in December 2025, but his screening for the party’s primary election on May 10 was marked by a tense walkout, fueling further speculation about his political future.
