Lagos – Nollywood actor-turned-lawmaker Hon. Desmond Elliot has issued a public apology to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following allegations that Elliot instigated religious divisions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The apology comes just days after Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, accused Elliot of using the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to write official complaint letters against him.

“For Desmond to be getting CAN to be writing official letters to me and to the party, causing division between Muslims and Christians as far as I’m concerned, is unacceptable,” Gbajabiamila said during an interview on Channels Television.

The presidential aide described the incident as a threat to unity within the party’s political structures and suggested it nearly cost him his position.

In a viral video posted on TVC News’ official X handle, a contrite Elliot addressed Gbajabiamila directly, acknowledging his political debt to the senior statesman.

“I know the media will say Desmond is begging again,” Elliot said. “I learnt everything about politics through him. I am sorry, my daddy, if I have offended you in any way.”

Elliot, who represents Surulere in the Lagos State House of Assembly, added that he would never disrespect the presidential aide.

The reconciliation follows a separate but related political crisis in the state assembly. Veteran actor and lawmaker Desmond Elliot recently disclosed that President Tinubu intervened after lawmakers removed Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Speaking in an interview with TVC, Elliot said the President invited all assembly members to a meeting, where Tinubu determined that the lawmakers had been misled into removing Obasa.

“He told us he has forgiven all of us,” Elliot said. The President then instructed the members to return peacefully and allow Obasa to continue as Speaker.

The twin controversies have placed Elliot at the center of intense political drama in Lagos, but his public apology to Gbajabiamila—whom he called his political mentor—appears aimed at healing the rift with the presidency’s powerful Chief of Staff.

As of press time, Gbajabiamila had not issued a public response to Elliot’s apology.
