Labour Party Disowns Fake Social Media Accounts, Warns Public
Nigeria’s Labour Party Nigeria has reaffirmed that it currently operates no active social media accounts, warning the public to disregard information circulating from unauthorized platforms.
In a statement issued on April 19, 2026, the party said its leadership had again identified a fraudulent account on X operating under the name “LABOUR PARTY (LP) NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_, which falsely claims to represent the party.
According to the statement, the account had previously been disowned in February but has since changed its name and handle in an apparent attempt to continue misleading the public.
The party clarified that its only known official social media handles; Labour Party-Nig on Facebook and @LabourPartyNG on X, are currently inactive and not being used for communication.
It further disclosed that a formal petition has been submitted to the Nigeria Police Force to facilitate the recovery of its official X account from individuals linked to the party’s former leadership.
The statement noted that Julius Abure and Umar Farouk Ibrahim are cooperating with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Force Intelligence Department as investigations continue into the alleged unauthorized control of the party’s digital platforms.
The Labour Party emphasized that, for now, all official communications are being released strictly through press statements from the Office of the Interim National Chairman. It added that any change in its communication channels would be formally announced.
The party also dismissed recent claims circulating online, suggesting it was expecting the return of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing such reports as false and unauthorized.
It urged the public and media organizations to remain vigilant and rely only on verified sources for accurate information regarding its activities.
