A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.

The latest ruling was delivered on Friday by Justice Isah Dashen, effectively nullifying the court’s previous order in favour of the political association.

The development was disclosed by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, , in a post shared on X.

The decision comes only days after a separate Federal High Court in Abuja ordered INEC to register the Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA) as a political party.

In that case, Justice directed the electoral commission to issue the CDA with its certificate of registration within seven days after delivering judgment in a suit instituted by Tamunotonye Samuel Solomon Inioribo and two other applicants.

The reasons for the Lokoja court’s decision to vacate its earlier judgment were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.

INEC has yet to issue an official statement on the development.
