Manchester City boosted their Premier League title hopes on Saturday after a convincing 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium reduced Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to just two points.

After a tense first half, City found their rhythm in the second period with Belgian winger Jérémy Doku opening the scoring in the 60th minute with a curling effort that sparked the hosts into life. Erling Haaland doubled the advantage 15 minutes later before setting up substitute Omar Marmoush for a late third goal.

The victory means Pep Guardiola’s side are now only two points behind league leaders Arsenal with three matches remaining in the title race. City also improved their goal difference, adding further pressure on the North London club ahead of their clash with West Ham.

Manchester City dominated much of the contest, registering 25 shots compared to Brentford’s four, although the visitors complained about several refereeing decisions during the encounter. Brentford manager Keith Andrews believed his side should have been awarded a second-half penalty following a challenge involving Kevin Schade.

Doku was widely praised as the standout performer after another influential display, continuing his impressive recent form for the defending champions.

The defeat dealt a setback to Brentford’s hopes of qualifying for European competition next season, leaving them outside the European places with only a few matches left in the campaign.
