Maria Bartiromo Leaves Fox News After 12½ Years, Network Gives No Reason

Maria Bartiromo, one of Fox News Media’s most recognisable television personalities and a prominent supporter of President Donald Trump, has abruptly left the network after more than 12 years.

Fox News Media announced the departure on Thursday, September 3, saying Bartiromo was no longer with the company, effective immediately.

“Effective today, Maria Bartiromo is no longer with FOX News Media,” the network said in a brief statement.

Fox thanked Bartiromo for her 12½ years with the company and wished her well in what it described as her “next chapter.” The network did not provide a reason for the sudden departure.

Bartiromo’s departure immediately triggered changes to Fox Business Network’s programming.

Her weekday programme, “Mornings with Maria,” aired its final episode on Thursday. Beginning Friday, the programme will be renamed “Mornings with FOX Business” and will be presented by a rotating group of hosts.

Her weekly programme “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street” will also be renamed “FBN’s Wall Street.” Cheryl Casone is scheduled to host this week’s edition, with rotating anchors expected to take over afterward.

Meanwhile, Fox News Channel’s Sunday programme, “Sunday Morning Futures,” will temporarily be hosted by Jason Chaffetz this weekend. Fox said a permanent replacement for Bartiromo would be announced later.

Bartiromo first became a major television name during her two decades at CNBC, where she established herself as a prominent financial journalist covering Wall Street.

She joined Fox News Media in 2014, taking on prominent roles at both Fox Business and Fox News. At Fox Business, she became the face of “Mornings with Maria,” while “Sunday Morning Futures” gave her a platform to interview leading political, business and government figures.

Her career at Fox also increasingly became associated with conservative politics and her strong relationship with Trump.

Bartiromo frequently interviewed Trump and became one of the most prominent pro-Trump voices among American television news personalities. Her political positioning helped make her influential among conservative viewers but also made her a controversial figure outside Fox’s core audience.

The timing of Bartiromo’s departure has attracted considerable attention because Fox provided no explanation beyond its brief announcement.

She had also been absent from Fox News Media programming since early August, according to reports. Her final episode of “Mornings with Maria” aired Thursday morning before the network announced that she was leaving.

Neither Bartiromo nor her representatives had publicly announced a reason for the departure as of Thursday.

The network’s decision to immediately remove her name from the titles of her programmes also signals a significant change to Fox Business’ weekday lineup.

Fox said it would announce a broader new weekday programming schedule in the coming weeks.

Bartiromo’s years at Fox were marked by both high-profile interviews and controversy.

She was among the Fox personalities whose coverage became relevant to defamation litigation stemming from false claims surrounding the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Fox News settled Dominion Voting Systems’ lawsuit in 2023 for $787.5 million, while litigation involving Smartmatic has continued.

Despite the controversies, Bartiromo remained one of the network’s best-known personalities, with programmes spanning financial markets, politics and the economy.

Her departure now brings an unexpected end to a Fox tenure that lasted more than a decade.

For now, Fox has offered no explanation for the decision, leaving Bartiromo’s next move uncertain.
