Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has called for comprehensive reforms in Nigeria’s media sector, alongside a renewed commitment to national dialogue as a pathway to unity and development.

Speaking at a public forum, the governor emphasized the critical role of the media in shaping public opinion, strengthening democracy, and promoting national cohesion. He urged stakeholders in the industry to embrace reforms that would enhance professionalism, credibility, and responsible journalism.

Oborevwori stressed that a well-structured media landscape is essential for combating misinformation, improving public trust, and ensuring that citizens are well-informed about governance and national issues.

The governor also advocated for an inclusive national dialogue, noting that open and honest conversations among Nigerians are necessary to address longstanding political, social, and economic challenges.

According to him, such dialogue should involve key stakeholders across regions, ethnic groups, and political divides, with the aim of fostering unity and building consensus on critical national issues.

He further highlighted the importance of collaboration between government institutions and the media, urging both sides to work together in promoting transparency, accountability, and national development.

Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen democratic institutions and encourage constructive engagement among citizens.

His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about media regulation, press freedom, and the need for reforms to adapt to the evolving digital information landscape in Nigeria.
