The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State has intensified efforts to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, as former governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu emerged as the party’s consensus candidate.

Adebutu was adopted by party leaders, stakeholders and members during a gathering held on Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Speaking after his emergence, the PDP chieftain declared that he was fully prepared to provide good governance and rescue the state from what he described as hardship and maladministration under the APC-led administration.

He accused the ruling party of failing residents despite Ogun State’s vast human and natural resources, insisting that the state deserved purposeful and competent leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Adebutu described his emergence as a historic moment and expressed gratitude to God and members of the party for entrusting him with the governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.

The former governorship candidate also pledged to work with party leaders and supporters to strengthen the PDP’s chances of returning to power in the state.

Also speaking at the event, former Ayodele Fayose urged Ogun residents to support Adebutu and the PDP, describing the opposition party as the better alternative capable of moving the state forward.

Fayose called on party members to remain united and committed as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

The event was attended by party stakeholders and members from across the state, who reiterated their commitment to mobilising support for the PDP ahead of the governorship contest.
