Rescue Ongoing as Three-Storey Students’ Hostel Collapses Near Federal Polytechnic Oko
Rescue operations are underway following the collapse of a three-storey private students’ hostel near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State.
The building, which is predominantly occupied by students of the institution, reportedly caved in at about 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Although the school is currently not in full academic session, some students were said to have been inside the building when it collapsed. While a number of occupants reportedly escaped unhurt before the incident, others are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, emergency management officials and personnel of the Fire Service have been deployed to the scene and are conducting rescue operations.
Some of the rescued victims have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities are yet to confirm the number of casualties or determine the cause of the collapse as search-and-rescue efforts continue.
