SENATOR KALU SOUNDS ALARM ON NIGERIA’S INSECURITY, COUNSELS PRUDENCE ON NNAMDI KANU CASE
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North and former Abia State Governor, has highlighted grave concerns over Nigeria’s rising insecurity featuring kidnappings, fatal attacks and violence, stressing the imperative to avoid politicising sensitive matters involving security and the judiciary as 2027 general elections approach.

Speaking Wednesday on a Television Program, Kalu cautioned against public discourse on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s detention amid ongoing court proceedings. “It’s not right for me to air my opinion without knowing the court’s position or that of the President. The President is watching the judiciary closely,” Senator Kalu said.
Kalu disclosed privileged discussions with President Tinubu on the issue but chose not to divulge details. “It’s a privilege having spoken to the President. Everyone wants a peaceful resolution,” he noted, emphasising judicial respect.
Advocating adherence to legal channels regarding case discontinuation, Kalu said “The proper process lies with the Attorney-General, not people shouting on TV or homes,” underscoring constitutional AGF authority alone. He urged patience allowing courts conclude matters.
“We’re doing backdoor diplomacy out of respect for judiciary. We mustn’t make Justice Nyako or judges look foolish debating case publicly. Nigerians must respect court decisions,” Kalu stated.
Senator Kalu expressed hope amicable resolution post-judicial pronouncement would restore South-East peace and broader Nigerian unity. “If handled properly, it will bring lasting peace to South-East and Nigeria,” he concluded, counselling calm amid process adherence.
