At least 10 passengers sustained injuries on Monday morning after a speeding Honda vehicle crashed into two commercial tricycles at the Federal Bus Stop along Ipaja Road in Lagos State. The accident occurred around 8:50 a.m. and involved a Honda car with registration number KTU 921 JY.

Eyewitnesses said the female driver of the Honda was allegedly speeding when she attempted to avoid a street sweeper working with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). The vehicle struck the sweeper before the driver lost control, veering across the road into the opposite lane and colliding with two tricycles commonly known as Keke Napep.

“The woman was speeding before she suddenly tried to dodge the LAWMA sweeper,” an eyewitness told Sahara Reporters. “She hit the sweeper and the car crossed to the other side of the road and rammed into the tricycles. People were shouting and running because the impact was very serious”.

Another witness, Michael Udoh, described the scene as chaotic. “I was standing right by the roadside waiting to board a bus when I heard the screeching of tires,” he said. “The Honda was flying. The car just flew over to the other side of the road. It slammed into the first Keke with so much force that the passengers were thrown out onto the concrete. It was like a movie scene”.

Approximately 10 passengers suffered varying degrees of injuries, with some sustaining serious wounds while others escaped with minor bruises. The injured were first taken to a nearby private hospital for emergency treatment before some were later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja for further medical care.

Officers from the Gowon Divisional Police Headquarters, neighbourhood watch personnel, and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were deployed to manage traffic and coordinate rescue efforts. The accident caused heavy traffic disruption along the busy Ipaja corridor as authorities cleared wreckage from the road.

Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report, and investigations are expected to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
