Shettima Extols Legacy of Elumelu’s Father-in-law, Conveys Tinubu’s Condolences
Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid glowing tribute to the late Sir Israel Chinwuba Ogbue, father-in-law of business magnate Tony Elumelu, describing him as a man whose enduring values are reflected in the lives of his children.
Speaking on Saturday at the funeral ceremony held in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Shettima said the late patriarch lived a fulfilled life marked by service, wisdom, and grace.
The Vice President, who led a Federal Government delegation to the event, also conveyed the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the bereaved family, as well as to the government and people of Delta State.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I extend our condolences and our respect to the family, the people of Onicha-Olona, and the government and people of Delta State. We honour the life he lived and the example he set,” Shettima said.
He noted that while the passing of Pa Ogbue brings sorrow, the occasion should also be seen as a celebration of a life well lived and a legacy that will endure across generations.
“At a moment like this, we can list achievements, we can recount titles, but what matters most is the life behind them. Pa Ogbue lived a life of meaning. He served, he guided, and he left things better than he met them,” he stated.
Reflecting on the late elder’s influence, Shettima recalled how Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings and founder of the United Bank for Africa, often spoke about the institution’s journey. According to him, those familiar with the story understand the critical role Pa Ogbue played in providing stability and moral direction during pivotal moments.
“He brought stability when it was needed and ensured that growth never lost its moral compass. This was a man who believed in balance,” the Vice President added.
The ceremony drew dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, who gathered to honour the late patriarch and sympathise with the Ogbue and Elumelu families.
During his visit, Shettima also stopped at the Elumelu family country home, where he was conferred with the traditional title Odoziani 1 of Aniocha—a recognition reserved for distinguished individuals who have contributed significantly to societal development and the progress of the Aniocha community.
The Vice President was accompanied by top government officials, including the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, and other notable figures.
