President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday formally swore in the newly appointed Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, at a ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The brief swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior government officials, family members of the appointees, and other dignitaries. Their inauguration comes weeks after both nominees secured confirmation by the Senate.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, Tegbe assured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains committed to improving electricity supply across the country, although he cautioned that progress would be gradual rather than immediate.

The new power minister said his administration would focus on addressing longstanding challenges in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, while building on ongoing reforms within the sector.

According to him, Nigerians should expect steady improvements as efforts are intensified to strengthen the national grid, expand infrastructure, and improve the efficiency of power delivery nationwide.

Tegbe appealed for patience and cooperation from citizens, stressing that sustainable reforms require time to yield meaningful results.

“We are committed to ensuring gradual but measurable progress in the power sector. The challenges are significant, but we are determined to address them systematically,” he said.

Also outlining his agenda, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye pledged to reposition the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through institutional reforms aimed at improving efficiency and professionalism.

The Minister of State said his immediate priorities would include strengthening internal administrative systems, restoring professional standards within the ministry, and boosting staff morale to enhance Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.

Enikanolaiye noted that a motivated and professional foreign service is essential for advancing Nigeria’s interests abroad and improving the country’s global standing.

He expressed readiness to work closely with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and career diplomats to deepen Nigeria’s bilateral and multilateral relationships while promoting the nation’s economic and strategic interests.

The appointments come as the Tinubu administration continues efforts to strengthen governance and accelerate reforms across critical sectors, including energy and foreign policy.

Observers say the performance of the new ministers will be closely watched, particularly in the power sector, where Nigerians continue to demand improved electricity supply and greater stability in service delivery.
